The PhD represents the third level of studies, the highest degree of university education in the Italian
academic system, which allows the development of the skills necessary to carry out high-quality research.
To access the doctorate you must have a second-level degree, admission is obtained by competition. The
duration of the PhD course is three years; at the end of each year you are admitted to the following year
after a favourable report from the Academic Board; the course ends with a dissertation on an original
research discussed within a commission.
